Young Programmers Workshop
8th-29th November, 2016
This November, the Nottingham Alternative Film Network is offering teenagers from all backgrounds the chance to gain experience as programmers. If you’re aged 15-17 and love watching movies, these free workshops could give you the power to turn that passion into exciting events for your community!
These workshops will involve watching important films from the British Film Institute‘s Blackstar Season and discussing your opinions. As a team, you’ll then be asked to build an event around a film of your choice, and this will be presented to the public at the New Basford Community Centre on December 17th.
To give you the skills you need to do this, we’ll be inviting you to the following workshops:
1. What Is Film Programming? – Tues, 8th Nov, 16:30pm
We’ll tell you what film programming involves, and why it matters that people like you have the opportunity to pick which movies get shown. We’ll also talk about the effects your choices can have, and try to find out which stories you want to see more of in your area.
2. How to Market Your Film Events – Tues, 15th Nov, 16:30pm
An event is only as strong as its ability to get its message out there, so we’ll be showing you all the tricks and techniques that can help you do that on a budget. Learn skills that can be used in any job.
3. Making Film Events Accessible – Tues, 22nd Nov, 16:30pm
How often do people put on events that you want to go to? We’ll be asking you to think about people who might feel like events are never put on for them. How would you make them feel welcome at one your events, and how would you learn more about their needs?
4. Making Film Events Special – Tues, 29th Nov, 16:30pm
What would make a showing even more exciting to you? This workshop will give you a chance to think of all the ways you would build added extras into your film events. You’ll also make your final choice of which film you’re going to put on for the public.
